All About Me

Hello, I am Raka Kingsland and this is my homepage. I was born on January 27th, 1987 in New Delhi, India. As a toddler I moved to Valparaiso and lived with my adopted family. I have one brother, Neerav, and he is married and attending Yale Law School. As a student I have always been interested in art. I am a very creative person and I adore color. I am basically involved with just 2-dimensional art. I love photography, Adobe Photoshop, painting, drawing, and collages.

As I have grown older, I have become very interested in helping the handicapped-not just the mentally or physically handicapped, but those individuals with emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities as well. I enjoy working with all ages but the high school level is where I see my future. I have volunteered at the Alterra house for Alzheimer’s, the Valparaiso Rehabilitation Center, Whispering Pines retirement home, group homes with elderly women that were either mute or had down syndrome, Opportunity Enterprises, and Family and Youth Service Bureaus.

As a Special Education teacher, I want to use hands-on projects and creativity in my class room. I want to make my students feel good about their art work and their poetry. I want to make them feel worthy.

My hobbies are art, music, children, dance, coffee shops, movies, and reading.

I will be attending Valparaiso University as a Secondary Education major with a concentration in social studies (psychology, sociology, history), and with a minor in special education. I will also be playing soccer for the reserves team.
